Barry Nisbet combines the music of his native Shetland with a songwriting style inspired by the drama of the islands, history, the sea, and his own travels and life.
He launches his first studio album A Bright Ray of Sunshine this year, having previously recorded with Wire and Wool (2016) and traditional fiddle group The Cullivoe Fiddlers (2006).
Playing in bands since schooldays in Shetland, Barry joined Dundee based Wire and Wool in 2013. He hasperformed with this group at events such as the Eden Festival, the Kelburn Garden Party, Celtic Connections, The Insider Strathspey Safari, the Southern Fried Festival, the Glasgow Merchant City Festival, Dundee Westfest, and the La Roche bluegrass festival in the Alps in front of 5,000.
Taking time out from Wire and Wool in late 2016 to pursue his own music, Barry has most recently toured as fiddle player with France based Americana-folk quartet Tildon Krautz, solo at events such as Shetland Fiddle Frenzy, and as a trio with Theo Barnard and Stephen Jack.
